UniLab’s journey began in 2006 with the development of the AC Laboratory System (ACLS) for the UNSW Sydney Electron Microscope Unit. Spearheaded by Dong Zheng and his team, ACLS empowered Australia’s leading nanotechnology research laboratories to streamline operations, maintenance, and reporting—allowing scientists to focus on what truly mattered: cutting-edge research.

By 2008, ACLS had expanded beyond UNSW, supporting research institutions across Australia and internationally. As demand grew, UniLab was established in 2016 as a dedicated spin-out company to further develop and scale ACLS. Dr. Warren McKenzie, now leading HB11 Energy in national fusion technology development, joined as a board science and business advisor, ensuring UniLab remained at the forefront of both research and commercialization.

Taking its first investment in 2018, UniLab expanded its vision with Moxy, a suite of collaboration tools designed by and for the world’s top scientific research teams—yet versatile enough for anyone, anywhere.

Today, UniLab continues to evolve, meeting the rigorous demands of elite scientific research teams while maintaining the highest security standards for laboratories worldwide.
